If you’re seriously considering breast augmentation, you likely have many questions about surgery and about what results you can expect. Our surgeons have put together a few important questions you may wish to ask during your pre-surgery consultation at Allure Plastic Surgery.
How Do I Decide on a Breast Implant Size?
Though choosing an implant size will ultimately be your decision, an experienced plastic surgeon can help you to find one that fits your body, your desired look and your lifestyle. They will encourage you to find an implant size that enhances your appearance and is proportionate to your body frame. They will also likely discuss with you your type of lifestyle, whether you are more sedentary or active, so that you can find a size that won’t interfere with your day-to-day life. Keep in mind that implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc’s) and not cup size, though it is helpful to the surgeon if you have a cup size in mind for your desired look.
What’s the Difference Between Silicone and Saline Implants?
Another big decision you will be making is which type of implant you will use — saline or silicone (both of which are offered at Allure Plastic Surgery). Each implant type has its benefits, depending on what kind of results you are after. Many women prefer silicone over saline because they feel that silicone implants look and feel the most like natural breasts. However, other patients like the fact that saline implants are placed empty, and then filled afterwards, requiring a smaller and less noticeable incision (under the arm, in the armpit area). These patients may also choose saline because it is the more economical implant choice. You can ask your surgeon questions about both implant types and discuss which one would be right for you during your consultation.
What is the Recovery Period Like?
Wondering how long you will need to be out of work, or unable to take care of small children or household chores? How about what to expect as far as discomfort, swelling and bruising? Will you need to wear bandages or a surgical bra, and for how long after surgery? When can you go back to the gym? These and other questions about the breast augmentation recovery period will be answered during your consult.
