Can You Guess the Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedure of 2014?

2014 most popular plastic surgery procedure Plastic surgery surged in popularity last year, according to new statistics from two leading plastic surgery associations. The doctors at Allure Plastic Surgery of Miami recently looked at the numbers from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), to compare national trends to what we see in our practice.

We were also curious to know which plastic surgery procedure performed was most popular in 2014.

We found that the answer changes, depending on the source.

What ASPS Found

According to ASPS, the most popular surgical procedure was the same in 2013 and 2014: breast augmentation. This is based on data from their 7,000+ physician members, all of whom are board-certified plastic surgeons that perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

  1. Breast augmentation
  2. Nose reshaping
  3. Liposuction
  4. Eyelid surgery
  5. Facelift

Top 5 Non-Surgical Procedures

  1. Botox
  2. Dermal fillers
  3. Chemical peel
  4. Laser hair removal
  5. Microdermabrasion

Cosmetic surgical procedures increased by 1 percent overall, to 1.7 million procedures. Minimally invasive, non-surgical procedures increased by 4 percent to 13.9 million procedures.

ASPS also found that buttock procedures (e.g., Brazilian butt lift) were some of the fastest growing procedures in 2014. Buttock implant procedures were up 98 percent last year!

What ASAPS Found

ASAPS surveyed 2,600 members in the U.S., Canada and other countries that specialize in cosmetic plastic surgery. According to their stats, liposuction was the most popular procedure of 2014.

ASAPS noted that women had more than 9.6 million cosmetic procedures performed, which is an astounding 429 percent increase from 1997 (when the first survey was conducted). Also, their data shows that Americans spent more than $12 billion on cosmetic enhancement procedures (both surgical and non-surgical).
