Plastic Surgery Trends of 2016

shutterstock_161365406Although we’re only two months into the new year, 2016 has already shown signs of what people are pursuing the most in terms of plastic surgery. At Allure Plastic Surgery, our surgeons have personally observed these trends based on what patients are asking for when coming into our Miami practice. Read on to find out what these trends are.

Millennials Getting Plastic Surgery

Think plastic surgery is only for middle-aged and older patients? Think again. Recent information from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has revealed a 64 percent increase in people under 30 years old having plastic surgery. The reason? Posting flawless photos on social media, sans the creeping crow’s feet. Celebrities on social media are also to be blamed for this rise in millennials going under the knife; with 49.4 million followers on Instagram, Kylie Jenner is at least partially responsible for influencing young women to want a line-free face and flawless body. Which procedures are popular with the under-30 crowd? Botox, lip augmentation, breast augmentation and Brazilian butt lift surgery.

Butts are the New Breasts

The days of the top-heavy Playboy bunny look are over. More women are shifting their focus from larger breasts to a rounder backside with Brazilian butt lift surgery. Though this trend is not a new one, it is showing no signs of deceleration. With stars like Kim Kardashian, Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj flaunting their hourglass figures without apology, more women are seeking a more voluptuous booty. Brazilian butt lift surgery has the benefit of two body shaping procedures in one, since it involves removing excess fat from another part of the body (a “problem area” such as the hips or thighs) and transferring it to the buttocks for a shapelier posterior.

Neck and Chin Contouring for Men

It’s no surprise that the rate of men having plastic surgery has risen dramatically in recent years. Liposuction and Botox have both been popular procedures for male clientele, and now neck and chin contouring treatments are being added to that list. Men seeking a more classically masculine jaw line are looking to neck lift surgery and non-surgical treatments like Kybella to remove excess fat and skin from the neck and chin area for that stronger-looking jaw line.

That Pillowy Lip Look

Fuller lips are also on the list of 2016 trends. According to RealSelf, 43 percent of the plastic surgeons they’ve polled said that they received more requests for lip augmentation in 2015 than they did in 2014, and they don’t anticipate a slowdown in this trend anytime soon. Dermal facial fillers like Restylane (a hyaluronic acid-based gel filler) works with the water molecules in your body to draw water to the treatment area, giving it a plumper look. Kylie Jenner, Angelina Jolie and other full-lipped stars are responsible for this trend, as women seek a sexier pout that still looks natural. Allure Plastic Surgery offers Restylane fillers to create this pillowy look, which gives the entire face a more youthful appearance.
